WD_BLACK SN850P for PS5 1TB

A lower-cost playable upgrade for a smaller rotation of games. Use the checker if several large releases need to stay installed together.

WD_BLACK SN850P for PS5 2TB

More room for several large games without jumping to the highest capacity. It is useful when a 1TB expansion would still require frequent rotation.

4TB

For an unusually large library

SanDisk Optimus GX PRO 850P for PS5 4TB

Only worth considering when 2TB would still leave you rotating games. Check your actual library before paying for this much capacity.

Will it work in my PS5?

The safest shopping rule is M.2 NVMe, PCIe Gen4 x4, 2280, and a heatsink already fitted. Every drive we route to meets that rule for the PS5, Slim and Pro.

The one people get wrong

The cooling structure is required. Buying a drive with the heatsink already fitted removes a compatibility step.

The speed label to use

Sony recommends at least 5,500MB/s sequential read speed. Every drive we route to meets or exceeds it.

The physical size to use

2280 is the common safe choice, and the drive plus heatsink must clear the expansion-bay cover.
