A larger drive is useful only if it is the right kind.
Sony specifies a PCIe Gen4 x4 M.2 NVMe drive with effective cooling and recommends at least 5,500MB/s sequential read speed. A compatible internal M.2 can launch PS5 games. A USB drive can store PS5 games, but they must move back to internal or M.2 storage before play.
