Free up Call of Duty storage before buying a drive.

Call of Duty lets you remove modes and content you do not play. Use that built-in cleanup first, then decide whether you still need more playable space.

Use Call of Duty Manage Files

Activision provides this control inside Call of Duty. The exact tiles depend on the games and modes installed on your account.

  1. Launch Call of Duty

    Open the menu, choose Manage Files, then choose Manage Files again.

  2. Remove only what you do not use

    Review the installed games, modes, and content packs. Uninstall the parts you are comfortable downloading again later.

  3. Check console storage again

    Return to the PS5 or Xbox storage screen and note the free playable space after cleanup. Do not size a drive from the old number.

If cleanup is not enough

Decide whether the games on the new drive must launch there. That matters more than the capacity printed on the box.

Keep Call of Duty ready to play

Use an Xbox Storage Expansion Card or a compatible PS5 M.2 SSD. Current-generation games can launch directly from this storage.

A USB drive costs less per terabyte, but current-generation games stored there must move back to playable storage before launch.
