Xbox expansion card not detected?
Open Settings, System, then Storage devices. If the card is missing there, use the short check below before you reset the console or buy a replacement.
Try this first
Remove the card
Turn the Xbox off, then pull the expansion card straight out of the dedicated Storage Expansion slot on the back of the console.
Wait 30 seconds
This is the wait time in Seagate's current troubleshooting instructions. Do not move the card to a USB port. It only works in the Storage Expansion slot.
Insert it firmly
On a Seagate card, the Xbox logo faces the USB and Ethernet ports. Push the card in fully, then turn the console on and check Storage devices again.
Restart once if it is still missing
Remove the card, restart the console without it, then insert it again after the Xbox has started. If it still does not appear, stop repeating the same test and contact the card maker.

If the card appears in Storage devices
The hardware has been detected. A game that will not install or launch is a different problem. Check the card's free space, the game's install location, and whether the Xbox profile that owns a digital game is signed in.
If the game is actually on a USB hard drive, use the Xbox USB game checker. A USB drive and a Storage Expansion Card look like storage in the menu, but they do not run the same games.
When to stop
Stop if the card, slot, or connector is visibly damaged, unusually hot, or smells burned. Do not force the card, clean the contacts with liquid, or keep power-cycling a console that repeatedly fails to start with the card installed.
If the card remains missing after the official check, contact Seagate or SanDisk with the model and serial number. A support or warranty claim is usually a better next step than buying the same capacity again immediately.
If you do need a replacement
